Whenever I see the veritable rainbow of Japanese stock footage ass-kickers, I get a little fluttery feeling inside the smashed and corroded cardboard box my inner child calls home. I am going to demonstrate, through the art of verbose (or was it prose?), why Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers for Super Nintendo is not bad.
Oh yeah. We’re doing this.

Well then, it finally happened. The summer, the most dreaded of the seasons for anime has arrived. With it we have some mediocre anime about 2 good ones, and a bunch of shit, and by a bunch I mean not a lot because there were only 15 animes this season; which is low. As always I decide to sum up my thoughts on the season in a handy graphic that goes before the jump.

What can be said about the newest effort from UK producer Grum (aptly named so because he was known as being a bit of a grumpy bastard in university.) Funky, poppy, retro, groovy, jumpin’, bangin’, yes there are plenty of adjectives that could describe Heartbeats, but I don’t think that it can be summed up by one in particular. Unless of course that adjective is: awesome. Hit the jump for a closer look at this delicious piece of ear-candy.

Today on Super Fun Kawaii Review Time, I’m going to be reviewing a hilarious independent cooking show called Food Party. It stars Thu Tran, a kooky Asian girl who hangs out with a lot of puppets, talking dinnerware and is friends with all sorts of celebrities. I’ve only seen one episode, but I plan on watching the rest very soon.
More insanity after the jump.

The opinions on Trent Reznor as a musician are incredibly polarized; you either love Nine Inch Nails or you hate it. That mindset will also apply to How To Destroy Angels, a collaboration with Mariqueen Maandig (his wife) and Atticus Ross of former NIN fame. Let me make this short if you’re wondering: If you like NIN you will certainly dig the How To Destroy Angels EP. If you don’t dig NIN, don’t waste your time. If you’ve never heard a NIN track once in your life then where have you been. Hit the jump for a closer look at the new tracks from How To Destroy Angels.
Oh, did I mention? The EP is available as a free (320kpbs mp3) download.

We talk a lot about video game cover bands here. From The Protomen to Powerglove, from The Kode to The Megas, there is a style for everyone. Recently there has also been a growing interest in the orchestration of video game music, with acts like Video Games Live putting on massive shows across the US, and the Video Game Orchestra blowing up events like PAX East and Anime Boston. Before these acts however there was another show. Across the pacific on September 14th, 2003 a group of musicians came together to perform a selection from the Mario and Zelda universes. The performance was recorded and later released under the name of the “Mario & Zelda Big Band Live.” The album never made it over here, but back in the day I was lucky enough to get a chance to rip the album and digging through my old hard drive I found the files, albeit 160 kbps unfortunately, but I absolutely had to give it another listen after all this time.

After taking a look at some heavy electronic it’s time to lighten it up a bit. The latest work from French artist Mr Sam combines a variety of sounds, a sort of experimental album in the sense that it doesn’t subscribe to a particular genre for the entire album. How does it hold up as a whole? Read on to find out.

You may not be able to judge a book by its cover but you can certainly judge a b-movie by its extremely descriptive title. Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus doesn’t disappoint and features, as one may expect, a really big shark and a really big octopus. It also contains a dodgy Irish stereotype, a hot chick, a japanese dude, a racist with a ponytail and some of the least impressive special effects in modern cinema.
