I apologize for not posting an article last week I will try to post tomorrow, or early next week to make up for that. However I’ve been trying to get all of my studies done and Italian is kicking my ass as a language, I have tough enough times speaking in my native tongue so another is throwing me for a loop. The other delay is the topic for this week, the night life, I god damn love this city at night.
In one night you can end up doing soo many different things that it boggles the mind sometimes, and its not like New York were the night life includes a myriad of clubs, theaters, and I don’t know I’m sure if you looked hard enough god damn glass blowing. Perugia has bars and a couple of dance joints, but have the night is just fucking walking around this god damned ancient city getting more mixed up than the production staff to LOST.
For example last week my neighbors, roommate and I finished up making dinner and decided to have gelato for desert so we all head at to this on pastry shop near by where they make some of the most decadent gelato ever, they have a chocolate cherry with whole chocolate covered cherries mixed in. And after acquiring our mounds of frozen cream and sugar we decide to check out the dead girls house.
For those, like my self, not following the story apparently last spring an exchange student here in Perugia was killed by a north African man in some strange sex act. While her American roommate and her boyfriend her in the house at the time and the American is on trial at the moment, now I’m not really following so some of those details might be a bit off but for months before I left when I told people I was going to Perugia the response was “You mean were that girl was murdered?” “Yep!” “Wow…well have fun!”
Soo in case there we stood, at the boarded up house of this dead student, eating Gelato and speculating as to weather the splotch on the ground was from the body and if that was the case why was it not cleaned up by this point and how could it stay so defined after so many months. And as we finished up our treats we decided it was time to head to Elfos. So we wound our way through the small dimly lit alley ways and backstreets of the city, getting ourselves completely lost. Until I the one person in the group who had yet to go to this pub lead us to this tiny out of way store front announcing itself to be Elfos.
And on entering we come into a large pub, which oddly enough felt very much like a hobbit hole should adorned with odd decorations all over including a bike hanging over the bar, but none of it feel clichéd like the knick knacks at a TGIF’s. And so we enter and all order a round of Quack, a sweet but strong beer served in an hourglass shaped glass. And so we grow inebriated while playing a round or two of Uno.
And before we call it a night, seeing as we all have classes in the morning, we work our way towards one of the main squares of the city we are all at once greeted to the night life of the city, now in full swing. In one corner of the piazza a crowd forms around a small cart that some industrious individuals have tricked out with booming speakers controlled from their Mac. And passing this we come to an even large crowed whose rhythmic thumping quickly drowns out the pimp cart. As I work my way through the crowd there stands about half a dozen or more gentlemen with these huge bongos strapped to themselves, just pounding out a beat. And joining in are members of the crowd, some jumping in and dancing like mad men, and others standing on the side lines just stomping in time to the bass drums.
After marveling for a bit we all head along back home, tired, weary and content… oh and turns out she died inside so no idea about the fucking splotch.

Nick…
Really good rant. This was a very descriptive narative of your evening.
Your writing is getting very good. The stories and observations are
entertaining. (Your use of ‘god damn’ and ‘fucking’ is ocassionally
superfluous)
The time in Italy and the Creative Writing course are going to be well
worth your time. Keep the posts coming!
